Kim Marie Hedges

Originally an English and Communication dual major graduating Summa Cum Laude from Canisius College of Buffalo, New York, Kim Marie became a certified teacher to share her love of English/Literature studies and Language Arts with children of all ages. She has taught in the elementary and middle grades classrooms for over 15 years, implementing and facilitating an enterprising and creative literature and grammar curriculum for her classes in both public and private school systems in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Kim Marie has tutored over 25 years from Pre-K through high school students, specializing in reading comprehension, grammar, writing, literary analysis, study strategies, learning style techniques, and test-taking skills.

Kim Marie has tutored numerous high school students in test preparation for the standardized college exams, namely the ACT and SAT. Breaking down each question in both the English and Reading sections of the tests, she teaches good, old-fashioned English grammar to her students so that they understand the specific parts of speech as well as sentence structure of each question. Her teaching techniques in reading and writing strategies support students learning how to analyze the tests’ difficult reading passages to provide clarity and understanding. Under Kim Marie’s tutelage, many college-bound students have made great strides in improving their ACT and SAT test scores.

Ward Striggles

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Emory University. Both as an undergraduate student and as a graduate student, I enjoyed being able to help fellow students in mathematics and statistics.

I spent the first part of my career working in finance, engineering, and information technology. Working in information technology as a consultant in various roles, I spent time developing and delivering training on newly implemented technology. This time was very rewarding.

In search of further rewards and with a desire to help younger learners develop, I enrolled in a Transition to Teaching Program at Indiana Wesleyan University. I became a certified and licensed teacher of mathematics for middle/junior high/high school. As a teacher, I was fortunate to be able to work in a standard classroom setting and in an alternative education setting. The alternative education setting provided students with individualized instruction to accommodate their learning styles.

I am now looking forward to helping more learners develop and succeed.

Karen Sumlin

My name is Karen Sumlin, and I bring over 25 years of educational experience with me, spanning from homeschooling to traditional classroom teaching. I specialize in tutoring high school and college level mathematics, SAT/ACT preparedness, Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL.)

All high school students are required to take a foreign language. Maybe your student is struggling with Spanish. I teach Spanish with a true accent because I learned it as a child.

My particular gift is the ability to explain difficult concepts in a way that the student can grasp. I have a BS in Mathematics, earned with a GPA of 4.0. Many students tell me that they can't do math, but what I have found is that they just haven't had the material that they are trying to grasp explained to them in a way that they can understand. I would love to help your students realize their true potential!

Is your student struggling with Statistics? I minored in Statistics and use my individualized approach with explaining confusing concepts and difficult terminologies in a clear and concise way.

When it's time to get your student ready for college with the SAT/ACT, I can help them to significantly improve their score in all the subjects covered in those tests. Are you wondering how you're going to get assistance for your soon to be college student once they graduate from high school? I do virtual lessons as well as in person, so I will still be there to help them over the hump into college level Mathematics and Spanish.

Are you ready to start giving your child the support that they need as they develop in their education? I look forward to meeting you and your student!
